Well, I'm obviously in a better mood today. Have I mentioned that [livejournal.com profile] blckwngdorcl is the bestest husband in the whole wide world? No matter what goes on in my life, I'm still in awe that I have the good fortune that he's there with me while it happens.

OK, I'd best cut that bunny-trail off right now. I could go on for a long time about that, and recent stuff in my life. But where was I?

Oh, yeah. The Dreaming. (Note: I went to the website so I could copy/paste the url, and the site is down. Not sure if that's permanent, since I figured that since this is apparently gonna be an annual thing, I thought the site would stay up. But the link is there, in case the site goes up again, or in case this was a temporary glitch.)

I suppose I should cut-tag this... For you picky bastards out there )

Fabulous essay stolen from [livejournal.com profile] acid0philus.

More on the Founding Fathers and the separation of Church and State

See my comment to him for more goodies.

Well, that doesn't QUITE cover it, but I think that's what I equate it with, when it all comes down to it.

For anyone who's wondering, this is gonna be the post that I alluded to in my earlier post about The Dreaming, and in my response to [livejournal.com profile] jupitercornwall in his LJ quiz thing. And many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ngtflyer and [livejournal.com profile] blckwngdorcl for doing the geek thing by themselves and letting me come home to make this post, while I was still, at least mostly, in the right frame of mind. :)

Cut for the easily annoyed (length) )

If any of you have ever talked with me in an online chat utility, I often open conversations with "Hey, baby", and always close them with "xoxo".

Never "oxox". I'll correct this "misspelling" if I accidentally type it in.

There's a reason for this.

When I lived with Fig, we had a write-on-wipe-off board on the fridge. A couple, actually. One was for the Quote of the Time Being (formerly known as the Quote of the Week, but we didn't update it that regularly), and the other was for leaving messages to each other. When I write things out by hand, for whatever reason, I write "oxox". Fig one day asked why I wrote "ox, ox" (as in cattle) on the board after my message. No, he wasn't being dense, he was just teasing me.

But it somewhat amused me, and ever since then, I never wrote "oxox" anymore. It was always "salamandersalamander", or "birdbird", or "velociraptorvelociraptor" - whatever animal struck my fancy at the time. Of course, it all meant the same thing, but it was kinda this cute little thing I did with him. And now, to see "oxox" in print strikes that cord with me, and I have to "fix" it.

Kinda sad, but poignant for me.

Another thing I noticed a few months back. I was driving [livejournal.com profile] wyzard_vyrnahnn's 4Runner home, 'cause he had rented a van, and needed me to take it home while he and [livejournal.com profile] liljuice drove to North Carolina. It was the first time in a long time I'd driven a vehicle like that. As I was driving it, I burst into tears on more than one occassion. I recalled, then, that the last time that I'd driven a vehicle like that was Fig's Blazer. I drove it a lot after he lost his license, and being in that position, that particular height from the road (my car is very low to the ground) and that particular configuration of car gadgets, put me right back into that place, driving Fig's Blazer around. I've known about muscle memory for years, and I totally believe it's true, but I hadn't previously been aware of a nerve memory. There is a type of nerve, I don't remember what it's called, but it has to do with your sense of placement. It keeps you oriented and upright. At least, I'm pretty sure it's a type of nerve. Could be a type of something else. At any rate, it would be respsonble for one's sense of placement in relation to the road in, say, a 4Runner, vs. a Cavalier.

Funny how these things strike me.

As I already knew, [livejournal.com profile] ngtflyer's house is a black hole, which will suck in anything the least bit geeky. I won't even go into all the prettyshinies he has there as far as computer equipment. Add to this his fabulous collection of upright arcade games and pinball machines, including Centipede, which happens to be my favorite, and, if I'm not mistaken, [livejournal.com profile] blckwngdorcl's too... AND he hosts this HUGE FUCKING collection of kickass music of all sorts, 'cause he serves as host for a lot of independent music artists and is more than willing (damn near insistent, actually) to burn lots of CDs of it and give it to you. It's pretty fucking cool, 'cause it's all original shit, very diverse, and no stupid RIAA issues with that type of music. And lots of original animations on his server, also by independent artists who use him for hosting. Truly a geek paradise.

Oh, and he has 2 cats, too.

He pretty much fucking rocks. I hope [livejournal.com profile] blckwngdorcl makes it out of there before he has to go to work on Tuesday. ;)
