A Smithers is NOT a Typing Aid
Jul. 13th, 2004 06:53 pmBe he is awfully cute. And he purrs, and makes distressed little meows periodically when my hands move with the typing as he's lying across them.
Anyway.
Today's ramblings include:
Puh-RAISE JAY-sess!!!! Ah kan SEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Yes, my glasses are FINALLY in, and on my face as we speak. I can see clearly now, AND the rain is gone!
(OK, yeah, I know, that was just BAD. And no one here is close enough to smack me for it.)
I got a call from ParaQuad today, giving me more hours. Two normal shifts (12 hours), and lots of visits (about an hour, at $50 per visit). This helps a lot.
I also got a call from CryoLife. This surprised me, 'cause it's been months since I put in my resume' to them, plus I got one of those computer-generated postcards in the mail... you know, "Thank you for your application, we currently have no positions, don't call us, we'll call you, blahblahblah". So I was really surprised to get the call, and it was even for the original position I was interested in. 12-hour shifts, rotating 3- and 4-day weeks. Which shouldn't interfere with classes. I have an interview on Thursday. :)
blckwngdorcl and I had a really good talk at the mall about sexuality, and how his childhood had affected his. I was really sad a couple of times, and was crying more than once. If I had been in the right frame of mind, I think I would have been really really pissed off about the whole thing. But it was a GOOD talk.
I have a few social things on my calendar in the next month, which is good. I don't get out much. :) Sorry for missing your party,
elephantankh. It was just one of those days. I don't have a good excuse, but I hope it was fabulous.
In flipping through my Manage Friends page (it's easier to go there and just click on the links), I notice that a lot of people have added me recently. I can't place them (although I think
jodydavidson is of old
triadj fame), but it's cool to know I've interested people enough to sign on for the ride. Thanks!
Actually, there used to be a meme or something like that going around that asked questions something to the effect of wanting to know how people found your LJ, what drew them to add you, what they liked/disliked, etc.. I may have to flesh that out and post it one of these days.
Tomorrow is housecleaning day. It's been put off entirely too long. So I probably won't be online much. Today, however,
blckwngdorcl took the car, so I'm stranded at the house.
Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled to be stranded. I don't have to leave the house for any reason, and since I know that the house is getting cleaned tomorrow, I have no guilt (well, very little) about not doing anything with it today, so I'm perfectly content to sit here and type away. I might even make some meaty posts today. ;)
Speaking of stranded vs. not...
What has usually been happening with the car is that I have to work in the morning, or need the car at night, so either myself or
wyzard_vyrnahnn will drop
blckwngdorcl off at work, and then, rather than wasting time and gas by driving home, I'll go over to the North Point Barnes and Noble, get some coffee if I have the cash, and curl up with a book or two.
Confession time. I am a SUCKER for children's books. Get me in a used bookstore (and I ADORE used bookstores), and I'm immediately drawn to the kids' section, and can spend hours perusing those books. Mostly, I'm looking for books I loved as a child, but no longer have. I'll happily buy them and take them home, and read them over and over again. And, since they're kids' books, I can usually whiz through them very quickly.
So, I noticed that the Trixie Belden books I loved as a child are being re-released. So, naturally, I snatched those up, and read through everything that's been released so far.
There's something just fabulous about going back into that world. There's a sense of nostalgia, because it harkens back to that time when I was younger, and things were easier and all that. And these particular books were written back in the Ward and June Cleaver era, so it's that kinda cheesy, complete with sneaking little educational tidbits about how to handle snakebites, the history of Arizona, and other little goodies. Interesting how much of some of that stuff I remember. Trixie Belden is the reason I know that apple seeds contain cyanide. :)
After Trixie Belden, I started up reading A Series of Unfortunate Events. I'd originally heard about these books from Tim (not
tbrents, or
dai_syn [who, by the way, hates me]), years ago. He had been reading them to his son, and said they were fabulous. And, with the movie coming out, I thought it might be interesting to give them a try.
OH MY GOD.
These are the most FABULOUS fucking books ever. I think I'm obsessed with them like
simplysakka is obsessed with Harry Potter. If you scope out the website I linked to earlier, you'll get an idea of the style these books are written in. I can't say enough good things about them. In fact, stop reading my LJ right now, and go and grab yourselves a copy!
I'm partially through the most recent book, and that's about the only thing I almost regret about not driving the beast to work today.
Hmmmm.... trying to think if there are any other strange ramblings I can add to this entry...
Eh, nothing that really strikes me. Go read!
Anyway.
