Portions of my Dream House - Cats' Section
Nov. 1st, 2005 06:30 pmIn relation to my cats, or any other pets I might have:
An entire room, about 10x10, devoted to litterboxes. This room will either be one huge nothing-but-litter room, or a room with SEVERAL (they say at least one box per cat, plus one... which is far from what I have now...) separate litter boxes. This room will be attached to the outside, such that any litterbox emptying can be done out a door or stagically-placed window, directly into a lid-locking trash can designed for just this purpose. If I choose the former option, the one-big-fucking-huge-litterbox option, there will be a mesh screen below the whole thing, which will be attached to pulleys in the wall, and have some sort of automatic mechanism by which I can clean the whole thing with a push of a button, and it all ends up outside in the previously-mentioned disposal can somehow. This room will be accessible to human by a normal door (actually, I'll probably make a path of some sort between the two sides of the room... maybe separate the room with paths... hmmm... I like that idea... it combines the separate litterboxes with the one litterbox idea nicely. There will several cat door accesses, from different sides of the room. There will be a few feet of a hallway-like area before you get to the litterbox area. This will be covered with something like welcome-mat-like material, which will clean the cats' feet on their way out.
I will only use The World's Best Cat Litter, unless the unlikely event occurs that they make something better. This is a shameless endorsement. Trust me, I've tried them all. This stuff kicks ass.
There will be a separate room, also covered in the welcome mat material, for the food. There will be several self-feeders, and a huge storage closet. The self-feeders will be entirely encircled by a moat, which will have filtered, running water, like a stream, for the cats to drink out of. They'll have to jump over it to get to the food. But ants and other bugs, which are currently driving me crazy, will NOT be able to get to the food. There'll be another closet in there for various cat stuff. Toys, leashes, and whatnot.
Pretty much all the windows in the house will have a ledge for the cats to look outside.
There will be inset tunnel-like areas that run through all the walls of the house, probably about at human head level, for the cats to run around in. There will be little areas within those which will have beds, toys, etc. There will be shelf-like perches with squishy cushions.
There will be a completely enclosed-yet-open-to-air place for them to go outside whenever they want (cat doored, of course). Nothing else will be able to get in, and they won't be able to get out, but they'll be able to experience fresh air, wind, rain, heat, snow, etc.. I haven't figured out the logistics of this yet, but it'll happen.
I'll likely have a room where we can groom the cats.
That's all for now.
