How do you do that thing where you make a link, and instead of a link looking like http://www.livejournal.com, you make it say "LJ", and the link's behind that?

If you're linking to an LJ user or community, you use one of their specific tags:
<lj user="bookofmirrors"> gives you bookofmirrors
<lj comm="dot_cattiness"> gives you dot_cattiness

If you're linking to some other kind of site, you use plain old HTML:
<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/">LJ</a> becomes LJ
