Color Help?

FYI, I'm so very very far behind on LJ that it'll probably go beyond LJ's skip limit for me to try to catch up - which I may or may not do tonight at work.

But this post isn't about that, anyway...

I've got some pending modeling gigs, and since I sadly no longer have the option to take advantage of userinfoStrega42's mad makeup skilz, and going in front of the camera without it I've figured out isn't wise, I ended up getting a bunch of sample base colors from Everyday Minerals (which is what seemed to be the most recommended makeup in the [livejournal.com profile] naturalliving community, and is also vegan, which I like). So, after wearing a different color makeup just about every day for almost a month, I've got it "narrowed" down to about 8 colors that I think are possibles for my skin tone (I'm wearing the last sample now - looks awful). Making the decision more difficult is the lighting in my apartment - two recent test colors looked fabulous in my apartment (with sucky lighting) and awful in the lighting at my client's house (with what I consider to be better lighting) and vice versa. So this isn't as easy as one might think.

Anyway, since I've been lucky enough to meet lots of lovely artsy people in Chambana, I'm hoping that one or more of them will offer to come and see me in the various colors that are possibles, and let me know which they think works best for me. So, obviously, someone really savvy about colors, and/or makeup in general, would be best.

Anyone willing/able to help me out, or know someone who might? Lord knows I've worn more makeup in the past month than I have in the past 10 years, so I'm thinkin' a second opinion would be REALLY helpful here.

Thanks in advance!

Considering what I remember of your skin tone, hair color, and eye color.... I would make sure whatever you are using as your base (mineral powder, foundation-etc) to be more of a porcelain or natural color that does NOT have a yellow tinge to it. Gently pink ok, yellow no.

Eye colors--- bronzes, light lavenders, very gentle greens. Covergirl makes a good base color for your top lid called "Champagne."
Burgandy and a darker purple good compliments to all of the above. :)

I'm flattered that you remember that! I definitely look better in pinks than yellows.

I've never tried bronze eye shadow... definitely done the others... I'll have to try that!

Thanks!

Do you remember the colors I use? You always complimented me on them. They're bronze, champagne, and burgundy. Occasionally, I'll wear a pink on top, mixed with the champagne.

Sadly, I'm really bad at makeup. I can't help.

ianphanes pointed me here.

I am one with the mineral makeup:) Are you talking "foundation" colors that you are having issues with or "color" makeup as in eyeshadow, blush etc.?

For foundations the best thing is to put heavy stripes of the powder foundation on your neck and go outside with a mirror. Yeah, I know this will look strange to the neighbors, but we're talking MAKEUP here;) Get in a stop where the light is directly on your face but not in your face. Choose the foundation powder that most closely matches your neck. Neck and face are generally not the same color but for a nice even tone from face to neck matching the neck is the way to go.

You know if you are using mineral foundation and are going to be photographed it will look much better applied with a damp cosmetic sponge than a brush. This give a more dense color payoff and will not give you "show thru" when the camera light hits you.

If you want to talk more makeup, just let me know.

Hey there! As they say, any friend of userinfoIanPhanes...... :)

I'm not exactly having issues per se... I just never wear makeup, and I don't necessarily trust my own eye for whether or not the foundation colors are right for my skin tone, so I want second opinions. I'm pretty happy with the eyeshadows I use, but always happy to get input on that stuff, too.

OK, I'm more than happy to look weird in front of the neighbors, but PLEASE tell me that the 20+ days I wore a different foundation every day and narrowed it down to about 9 possibles hasn't gone to waste - I do NOT want to go through that again!!

I totally didn't know about the damp sponge thing. Another learning curve. Bleh.

Methinks I have another excuse to meet someone over coffee! Besides, your profile rocks. Yes? :)

Hmmm... only evenings I can do are Tuesdays and Wednesdays in general, and the earlier the better in either case. This week is out, though. Could do next week, either day.

Is there a particular place you'd like to meet? I'm a coffee snob, but generally always happy to try somewhere new (or not). :)
