Oh, My, God...

[livejournal.com profile] blckwngdorcl is going out with friends tomorrow to see X2, and since I'm a selfish bitch when it comes to such things, I insisted that the first time he see the movie had better be with me. So, as a result, we went to a midnight showing tonight.

EXCELLENT. Everything you hear about Nightcrawler's special effects kicking ass are true. A few hat tips to people's other ventures - Magneto reading "The Once and Future King", which is close enough to be a reference to something like LOTR. OK, so one has nothing to do with the other, but it REMINDED me of it, which I think was exactly what it was supposed to do. Magneto kicks ass, and lotsa stuff about Wolverine's past.

The thing that stuck out to me the most was, though, Jean Grey. Anyone who knows anything about my history with [livejournal.com profile] logomancer will understand. I have a tattoo of the Phoenix symbol on my sternum. In the movie, Jean was finally coming into her own, starting to use some of the Phoenix power. Her eyes got all flame-y, and at the end, she started to show the first hints of the aura that she later gets when she Phoenixes out. Ohhhhhh, fucking drool.

The thing that really struck me, though, was that whole coming into one's power thing. Jean Grey, who in the comics, from what little I've read, was this kinda prissy thing who didn't quite exert all she had, until she got the Phoenix power (moreso the Dark Phoenix power), was starting to realize she was much more powerful than she suspected she was. And she started to use it.

And I can see that in myself. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] logomancer wasn't just using all that poetically. Maybe he saw even more than I read in the pages he wrote so long ago. But, whether or not he saw it that way, I can see myself doing the same thing. Coming into my own. Words can't describe it well, but the feeling is profound.

I am going to try to but unfortunately I have a project due on Monday so I may have to finish that first. I will get to it and then we can compare opinions. I have been hearing positive reviews for it though.
