Nostalgia ...Sorta
Apr. 30th, 2008 12:41 amOK, two things. First of all, they've apparently made a movie (documentary) about high school seniors in my hometown (Warsaw, Indiana), and it's getting rave reviews and winning awards and shit, and supposed to be out on the usual movie circuits where documentaries usually don't get to live. Comparing it to The Breakfast Club and all that. I'm actually pretty stoked about this. I must, of course, see this movie. :) American Teen

They actually (finally!) made a DragonLance movie. OK, so it's animated, and therefore, all the endless castings that my Illinois friends and I worked out were useless. Lucy Lawless, who might have made a good Kitiara or Takhisis in a live movie, played Goldmoon, which of course she never could have pulled off in a live film. Kiefer Sutherland did a fairly good (if not nearly as sinister) Raistlin, although hands down Christopher Walken should have that role in a live movie. So, here's my take on it. It's animated, sometimes poorly. The CG and the traditional animation don't mix well. They actually did a pretty good job of following the book for quite some time, and did it pretty well. But, towards the end, even though it was obvious they were going to do the sequel, they suddenly rushed it, and added all this shit that wasn't until the later books, and did this really lame scene of Fizban travelling to Takhisis, THEN turning into Paladine, and fighting her in a completely unspectacular battle, and they rushed to tie up a few other loose ends that were supposed to be left undone until later books ...er movies. They got a lot wrong, and a lot right, and I'm glad the movie exists, because the books were fantastic, and have always deserved to have movies made out of them. What I'm really hoping is that, similar to Lord of the Rings, they'll have the animated versions of the adaptations ...and then someone like Peter Jackson will get a hold of them and really bring them to life.
Here's hoping.
