Well, I woke up this morning with a stiff and painful neck, which got progressively worse as the day went on (not that there was much of a day... but driving to work SUCKED). Anyway, I couldn't (can't) really do any movement to the left without LOTS of pain. So, in leiu of tormenting
profundis at that time of the morning (and me being broke, anyway), I went to work and asked one of the owners about a massage therapist that is supposedly on comp for us. (In other words, we've been promised mass massages in the past, none of which has ever come to fruition.) He suggested that a chiropractor would be a better choice. (My thought, too, but I didn't think we had one on comp, so I didn't mention it.) I reminded him that I was broke, and that it would have to be a chiropractor on comp. They scheduled me an appointment (right across the street, literally, which was cool) for 11am. I did two treatments, both of which proved unpleasant, although doable. I could feel the muscles on my right side accomodating for the left, and how stiff they were getting, and was starting to get a headache. Anyway, the owner had written a letter to bill Sona for the charges, which worried me. He said we'd work it out somehow. So, anyway, I went to the chiropractor. A cute, conservative guy, with, I'm told, lots of "strategically placed" tattoos, although only one was visible. Anyway, he took x-rays, adjusted me, did some sort of jackhammer thing with my neck, and used an ultrasound/trigger point machine to make my muscles convulse. This was supposed to wear them out, so they couldn't spasm anymore, since he said they were spasming like crazy. I'm not going to get into details, 'cause sitting here hurts and I want to go back to bed, but suffice it to say my neck is poker-straight were it should be curved, and that flare-ups like this will continue to happen unless I get it worked on consistently. (This is my second.)
At any rate, he told me he REALLY REALLY didn't think I should do any work after all that, and gave me a note, which I felt bad about, 'cause I was pretty sure the owner was shooting for a quick fix that would get me back on the floor. However, I also figured he sent me there, so he wanted me to do whatever "there" said. He wasn't pleased when I gave him the note, but...
Anyway, I went home, did the ice for 20 minutes thing, and slept. And slept. The whole process must have really worn me out, 'cause I ended up skipping a couple of the 20 minutes every hour icings, but I felt somewhat better when I woke up. Of course, now I've been up for a while, and doing things (like fixing food and sitting here) that I probably shouldn't have, and now it's hurting again. So, I'm thinking more ice and more bed, and watching House, which is a kickass show I highly recommend.
I'm off work tomorrow, although I have things to do. Hopefully it'll all work out.
