Depression is at epidemic levels in this country. Prozac and other medications are advertised so often that their function and names have become commonplace, even amongst children. Many teenagers are prescribed these medications without any effort on the part of their physicians to alleviate symptoms by other, more natural, means.
Depression shows up in your body. Just as anxiety makes you feel jittery, depression “de-presses” emotions, and often you may develop what is characterized as a “flat effect”. With depression, breathing tends to be shallower, and movement more limited. Many of us recognize symptoms of depression in others we have met or interacted with, and many have also experienced depression first-hand.
Pam’s lecture will present the topic of depression from the point of view of Core Energetics and looking to one’s own body for the healing process to be revealed. The Core Energetics model shows some very positive methods for working with depression, by finding the ways one may block feelings and energy, and to help one work towards unblocking. When we unblock, we make the stagnant energy available for living more fully.
Pamela L Chubbuck is a therapist who has worked with the integration of body-emotion-mind-spirit for over 30 years. Pam specializes in the interface of the psychological and physical aspects of the human being and is the director of Core Energetics Institute South, which trains professionals to practice this integrative healing modality.
