I meant to make a real post in addition to this, but in the meantime, here's a great link...

Pro-Choice, Pro-Life, Pro-Birth

I'm going to disagree with her premise that a vote for Obama/Biden is going to reduce abortions. It may not increase them but abortions certainly won't decrease.

Here's a good article for this very argument: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/08/barack_obama_abortion_extremis.html

OMG... y'know, I had to go back and read the link to know what you were talking about. I had read it earlier, and was touched by the contrast between pro-life and pro-birth, and thought it worth passing on, but I had COMPLETELY glossed over and/or forgotten that there was a specific political message regarding the current candidates in there! I mean, this subject always ends up being political, but I'd forgotten he mentioned people by name. In that, I apologize. It wasn't my intention to post something to sway votes one way or the other. Even my character post wasn't for that purpose. I'm kind of in the "it's the economy, stupid" camp when it comes to that.

The article was interesting. But that wasn't really what I was trying to talk about to begin with, so it was kinda less relevant for me, in context.

To clarify, though, I find the whole pro-life really being pro-birth thing interesting, and he makes a decent argument for that. I am very much against abstinence-only education, and I am also very much against willy-nilly abortions. I do think the answer lies in preventing unwanted pregnancies to begin with, using honest and realistic education, which not only includes how NOT to get pregnant, but ALL the options if you do. And parenting classes that include things like reading Touching by Ashley Montagu as a requirement, as well as Alfie Kohn's books on parenting.

/soapbox :)

......I do think the answer lies in preventing unwanted pregnancies to begin with,.....

Its called being a responsible adult.

... using honest and realistic education, which not only includes how NOT to get pregnant, but ALL the options if you do.

To me, it begins at home not in the schools, but I am also for sex education in school's because frankly, I don't really think parents do a good job of teaching their children about sex and everything that goes along with it.
