OK. I have spent most of the day putting together the 3 desk-like things I got from Ikea, a result of a gift from my grandfather. I'm absolutely fucking exhausted right now, that kind of exhausted where you could burst into tears for no reason.

Putting together the desks was preceded by breakfast with [personal profile] blckwngdorcl, followed by some desk-making, followed by some intense therapeutic discussion, in which we learned a great deal about ourselves and each other, and came to terms with some apparently long-standing misunderstandings between us, as well as where our heads were about it, and how to prevent such mishaps in the future. All in all, very worthwhile, and makes me not mind nearly as much that it's 10:30pm, and I'm exhausted. This was followed by connecting to each other again, followed by a trip to take out the garbage together, RSVP for his niece's wedding, and walk to the office to clarify exactly what we needed done with the apartment. (Remember that post I made back in November, about mushrooms growing from the carpet? Those are gone, but they still haven't fixed the problem.) This was followed by a quick lunch, followed by more desk-making. Which is done now.

OK, I don't have a digital camera (well, I do, on my phone, but I don't know how to upload pics from it), so here's what the things look like (they're all the black-brown-white versions):

Desk 1 doesn't exactly sit in a corner, but it kinda creates a divider between what has now become the sort-of-make-shift office and the area I'd like to be a family room someday (when we can afford a couch).

Desk 2 sits to the right of Desk 1, and I plan for it to hold a blotter-type desk calendar. This is the type of calendar I had when I worked at Fox, and I was BEYOND organized and responsible when I had that kind of setup. I want to be that organized again. And since I'm not keeping my computer on it, the piece at the bottom is a perfect place to start keeping my purse, instead of in a heap by the door. No idea what I'm gonna do with that drawer, though.

This drawer-y thing sits to the right of Desk 2, and I thought at least the bottom drawer was a file cabinet. I'm not entirely sure of this, now that it's put together, but I'm not in the mood to fully investigate it.

All in all, they really weren't hard to put together, just time-consuming. I only needed [personal profile] blckwngdorcl's help a few times, and even those were more for moral support, and just 'cause it was a lot easier with two people.

For his part, as part of his burgeoning independence, he made himself dinner. This from the man who can barely cook soup. Rice-a-Roni and fish. Go him. I tried a bite of the rice, and it weren't half bad, it weren't. :)

Anyway, I have more to post on Wednesday, but I'm dead tired now, and I'm going to bed.
