Watch Out! PSA
Mar. 29th, 2006 01:15 amOK, so I get home tonight and found an IM on my screen, from a friend of mine on Yahoo, asking me to go to her webpage. The text was as follows:
[Friend's Username]: get a chance check mah gurls pictures out ;)
http://www.geocities.com/fyne_mixzd_gurl337 =P~
So, OK, this isn't quite the syntax I'm used to seeing from her, but, after checking carefully that the spelling was correct, and that it was coming from Yahoo and such, I clicked on the link. Nothing wrong there... except that, in spite of it being a GeoCities URL, it had a Yahoo Photos interface - including a place to sign in with my username and password. I didn't particularly think this was legit, so I looked to see if my friend was online. She wasn't signed in on Yahoo, but she was on AIM. I IMed her, and asked her if the webpage was hers. She said it wasn't, and not to put my information in. She had done so earlier (having gotten the IM as from one of her geek friends, which didn't cause her to be suspicious about the site), and could no longer sign into her Yahoo account.
So, be careful!
