And Now, Time For An Update
Jul. 24th, 2005 11:59 amNot that I really feel like making an entry right now, but
lunenoire is still sleeping, and
blckwngdorcl is still in bed (but mostly awake), and I'm the only one fully awake. I've caught up on all my email/LJ stuff, and now I'm just waiting for everyone to be up, so we can decide what to do about breakfast/brunch/food in general, and I can start working on the house.
A couple of things to update. A decision, and what happened on Wednesday, and maybe some other stuff.
First of all, Wednesday.
Wednesday is my (or
blckwngdorcl's) appointment with Pam. The appointment is at 11am, and last week, we had discovered, much to our delight, how CLOSE we now were to her place, and how EASY it was to get there from here. As a result, I was convinced I knew/remembered how to get there without consulting MapQuest again. After traversing the length of LaVista Road twice, we discovered that wasn't the case. So, we attempted to fix the situation by getting on 285, which is the way we used to go from Marietta. Except that, at the point we got on, it wasn't a question of east/west (we wanted east), but north/south. And I didn't have the foggiest where we were in relation to that. So, we took a guess, which turned out to be the wrong one, but we didn't figure that out right away. Pam called us back about that point, 'cause I had left a mesage we were gonna be late, and not sure how much, or if she had an appointment after us, etc.. Turns out she did have one after us, and we were so late, and so far away (and headed in the wrong direction!), that we just decided on next week. *sigh*
The bright side to this was that we could go over to Marietta early, since we had a ton of errands to do there.
First of all, we stopped by MicroCenter, 'cause we needed some blank CDs and an S-cable. We got those, and headed out.
We stopped by
simplysakka's work, hoping to catch her there, but she'd already gone to lunch. However, as we were calling
wyzard_vyrnahnn to get directions to their new place, one of her co-workers had a printout of directions, so she gave us that. So, we headed over there to get a file we had left on
simplysakka's computer. After MUCH searching, we couldn't find it, so it turned out to just be a visit with
wyzard_vyrnahnn and
liljuice, which isn't a bad thing. We didn't get to see Meau. :(
From there, we were supposed to meet
missakins to pick up a charger for a PDA she'd sold me a while back. She had found it recently. Except that we hadn't clarified where we were meeting. After trying the Marietta Diner, we searched our phones in vain for her number, then I finally broke down and called
simplysakka, asking if she still had her phone number. She didn't, but she tried to give us directions to her house. We drove around, trying to find it, but the road branches a couple of ways, and finally we just drove up and down slowly, the entire length of both branches, several times, trying to find a house of that description, with no luck. *sigh* I sent her an email. Hopefully, next week, we can pull it off.
Then, we went to our old house, to try and figure out which were the correct keys, so we could return them to the landlords. I'd tried to do so WEEKS ago, but it turned out I had the wrong keys, so we've just been waiting for a time we could be in the neighborhood. Anyway, they'd locked the SCREEN doors (who the fuck does THAT???), so we could't even test the keys. I called the landlords, who couldn't remedy the situation that day, but we tentatively rescheduled for next Wednesday.
OK... So, at this point, we've successfully completed 1 of our 5 errands.
We headed over to the Red Bandanna on 120 to get a shitload of cat food/litter. We'd been running out a lot lately, and I wanted to get a stash to last a long time today. There are ones closer to us, but the chick that works at that one, Lauren, is WAY cool, and I'd rather give her the business if I can.
She wasn't there that day, though, so, as we were making our purchases, I asked about her. The lady said she wasn't there anymore. She seemed kinda close-mouthed about it, which made me wonder what had happened, if there had been a controversy, or she'd been fired or something (I couldn't IMAGINE anyone firing her), so after some more idle talk, I pressed the issue (gently, of course).
It turns out, she hadn't been fired at all. She'd been killed in a boating accident a few weeks ago.
Damn. We were sad. She had rocked, big time, and lit up a room. *sigh* I suppose I won't be bothering to go across town for my cat food anymore, but I think I'd have rather...
Anyway, that accomplished, we grabbed a bite to eat at the Chili's in that shopping center. (Actually, now that I think of it, we did that first, 'cause we were starving).
After that, I wanted to relax, and curl up at a bookstore with the new Harry Potter book, which I'd started the other day. We decided to go to the Starbucks where
elephantankh works, since there was a coffee tasting later that night, and we wanted to make sure we knew where it was. We got there in the middle of a meeting, but
elephantankh was there, so we at least got to see him. That was cool. I hadn't seen him in FOREVER. He directed us to the nearest bookstore, and we headed over, and I read more Harry Potter goodness while
blckwngdorcl pored over comics.
We got to the coffee tasting late, having never been to a coffee tasting before, and not realizing it wasn't going to be just a bunch of coffee and pastry samples sitting around to drink/nibble on. But
elephantankh was actually giving a presentation on the coffee - where it was from, how that affected the taste, the way to taste coffee, what to look for, and best and coolest of all, pairing the coffee with different foods to enhance different aspects of its flavor. The whole thing was cool as HELL. We're totally going back. Apparently, they have one once a month, and since it's on my day off... way fucking cool. I think I can actually drink coffee black now. And it was GOOD to be social, to see a friend I hadn't seen in a while (I couldn't stop hugging him), and to feel part of something social again. Ahhhhhhh.... (Oh, and just to give a shout out to
boldar, who we met there, who had also responded to the post in
atlanta.)
So, from there, we headed to the Barnes and Noble on 41, 'cause I was jonesing for more Harry. We went there, 'cause B&N has it for 40%, whereas Borders is only 30% off. I went in, we wandered a tad, and I was gonna buy it, decided it was a waste of money, hemhawed, actually walked out the door, and decided I had to have it, and went back in to buy it. I felt guilty, a bit, that
blckwngdorcl wasn't getting anything, but there was this really cool Marvel coffee table book for insanely cheap, so I figured it would be worth it, so we ended up getting both, and renewing our discount card.
After that, we headed home.
lunenoire had indicated that he'd probably be in bed by the time we got home, so we stopped at Varsity Jr. near our house. The usual fare, and I had wondered what the difference was between the regular one and a "Jr." one (I'm still wondering, actually), but it was cheap and quick, and that's what mattered.
We got home, and I curled up with the book, and read it until it was finished. (Which took me till about 3am.)
Oh. My. God.
I totally couldn't get to sleep after that. I went back and read
savage_rose's spoiler post, and the links attached to that, and finally calmed down enough to sleep.
So, all in all, an eventful and pleasurable Wednesday, even though I didn't get nearly as much PRODUCTIVE stuff done as I meant to.
The post about the decision I recently made I've decided to make separate from this one. Stay tuned.
