bookofmirrors: (Contemplative)
OK, so my birthday is Thursday. Usually, I spend the day in mindless self-indulgence, generally characterized by dinner and a movie, and maybe a little more than that.

I'd like to do something a little different this year.

This is partially 'cause I'm just in that mode. New job (eventually), going back to school (in some form), finishing Core (in June), etc.. Also partially 'cause this is one of those landmark birthdays. If I weren't such a slacker, and we had more money, I might have done a big party thing. But, be that as it may, that's not the plan.

Here *is* my plan. It's pretty much based on that superstition of doing things on New Year's Day you want to happen the rest of the year.

I'm going to forego my usual sleeping in on my birthday. Honestly, I sleep in a lot now, since I'm not working much, so it's not as much of a decadence as it used to be, anyway. But, I'm going to get up early, and go work out. I've had a gym membership for a few months now, and I haven't used it. I've made some really great strides in bettering my diet, and I know the reason the weight persists is because I don't exercise. I'm ridiculously out of shape, and that needs to change. So, I'm going to start out the year exercising.

Then I'm going to go home and shower with the Beastie, make sure the cats have what they need for the day, and go out for breakfast. My favorite place has some really good-for-you food, and the best coffee in the world. In the food portion of the day, there will be indulgence, but I'm hoping for it to be good indulgence.

After that, I want to go see Dialog in the Dark. It's supposed to be fabulous and educational and mind-expanding and allsortsa good things that I want to cultivate in my life.

After that, I want to go do something spiritual. I don't know what yet... maybe just walk the labyrinth at St. Philips, maybe just hang out at P&D or something. TBD. I would have gone and had therapy, but Pam has an intensive starting that day, so she's not available (hence, I'm going tomorrow instead).

By then, we'll probably want food again... R. Thomas, maybe? Not sure... Something simple, though.

There's something I want to do that night which I'm not putting here, 'cause it's a bit of a surprise. Something I really wanna do, and would fit in with the theme of the day, but something that would be a surprise to the Beastie, so I don't wanna give details here.

Somewhere in here fits lots of hot sex, and I want somewhere in here to include friends, but it's a weekday, and while there are 2 BP groups on Thursday, they aren't with "my" usual crowd. If anyone has any suggestions for maybe meeting a bunch of people for coffee midafternoon or latenight (after 11pm) somewhere, I'm open to that. I might come up with something on my own and just have people show up if they can/want to. But I want friends to be a part of my new year, as well.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Describing the poet Kenneth Koch, his colleague John Ashbery said that his work "gives you the impression that you are leading an interesting life; going to parties and meeting interesting people, falling in love, going for rides in the country and to public swimming pools, eating in the best restaurants and going to movies and the theater in the afternoons. By comparison, most other modern poetry makes me feel as if I were living in a small Midwestern university town." In the coming weeks, Libra, I exhort you to have an impact on people that's like Koch's poetry. Here's the best way to do that: Live the most interesting and imaginative life you can dream up.

In honor of my upcoming birthday, when I don't wanna waste time making a (ridiculously!) long post like this:

(NOTE: This post was edited on 02/20/2011, for Western and Vedic Astrology, since I had been previously wrong about my birth time. And apparently LJ *does* have a character limit, so I've had to put continuations in the comment section.)
